The Geological Identity of Lamelle Chardonnay IGT: The First White from Il Borro
The Lamelle IGT Toscana holds a place of honor in the historical timeline of the Il Borro estate, standing as the very first white wine crafted within the property. This selection captures a tensed, crystal-clear, and exceptionally fresh expression of the Chardonnay variety grown in the Valdarno di Sopra sub-zone. The core of this cuvée is deeply shaped by a unique soil matrix of metamorphic origin, marked by an abundance of ancient marine fossils and shells from the Pleistocene era. This distinctive pedoclimatic profile allows the roots to absorb rare minerals, yielding a dry white wine with outstanding structural energy and vertical precision.
Climatic Features of the 2024 Vintage and Protective Cellar Protocol
The 2024 vegetative cycle was initiated by a mild, early spring that accelerated budburst across the plots, followed by a well-ventilated June with monitored water reserves. The summer recorded significant thermal peaks, beautifully counterbalanced by sharp diurnal temperature shifts that fully protected the integrity of organic acids within the berries. Hand-harvested into small bins, the grapes yielded free-run musts with excellent analytical balance. In the cellar, both primary fermentation and subsequent fine lees maturation (*sur lie*) are conducted exclusively inside temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, a strategic choice targeted at absolute extraction clarity without oak interference.
Sensory profile of the Lamelle Chardonnay IGT Il Borro
The synergy between ancient marine fossil deposits and exclusive stainless steel vinification shapes a clean organoleptic identity marked by sharp mineral tension and structural agility.
- Appellation, Blend, and ABV: 100% Chardonnay / IGT Toscana / 13.00% ABV / Volumes:750 ml / Cold-fermented and aged on fine lees inside stainless steel tanks with blocked malolactic conversion.
- Visual Presentation: Pale, luminous straw yellow color enhanced by vibrant, youthful greenish reflections that highlight its structural clarity upon swirling.
- Aromatic Bouquet: Broad, fresh, and characteristically fragrant on the nose. Clean notes of fresh meadow flowers and crisp green apple unfold, layered with refined citrus hints of grapefruit peel and a sharp mineral trace of chalk.
- Palate Texture: Dry, tensed, and remarkably fluid on the entry. The mid-palate delivers a streamlined, agile framework where a vibrant integrated acidity meets a mouth-watering marine salinity, leading into a crisp, savory finish with outstanding persistence.
Food Pairings and Serving Recommendations
The structural freshness and precise fruit outline of this Tuscan white Chardonnay support outstanding versatility across diverse elegant seafood selections and Mediterranean dining scenarios.
- Premium Seafood Pairings: Pairs naturally and with absolute elegance with raw seafood platters, fresh oysters, steamed shellfish, and oven-baked premium white fish cooked with Mediterranean herbs.
- Pasta and Cheese Pairings: Offers an ideal match for light pasta courses, vegetable risottos, savory flans, and a select choice of mild fresh goat or soft cheeses.
- Serving Conditions: To ensure accurate structural balance and allow the complex floral layers to unfold completely, use a medium-sized white wine glass and serve at a steady chilled temperature of 10 - 12°C.
