Louis Moreau

The Moreau family has lived in Chablis since 1814 and is now in its sixth generation. Louis Moreau, a scholar in enology-viticulture at the University of California, succeeds his father. Louis favors, to the conventional, a reasoned work of the vine. It adopts the natural solution to preserve the quality of its vines and grapes. The field of Louis Moreau was born in the late 19th century, the love of this family for great wines led to buy plots to Chablis Grand Cru and Chablis 1st Cru. Today owner of five Grand Cru, including a monopole. The most prestigious of its wines is the monopoly of Chablis Grand Cru Clos des Hospices, whose acquisition dates back to 1904. Louis Moreau produces wines of a unique style, combining minerality, finesse, elegance and purity. Chablis is the Golden Gate of Burgundy, divided between: Little Chablis; Chablis; 1st Cru; Grands Crus. Made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, it owes its unique character to a land called Kimmeridgiano. Alternation of limestone and clay layers dating back to 240 million years, and contains fossil ammonites. Layered mineral deposits give a unique character to the Chablis terroir, giving the wines their minerality and their purity.
