The Gschleier Schiava Vecchie Vigne 2023 from Cantina Girlan is one of the most prestigious interpretations of Alto Adige Schiava, obtained from historic vineyards located in the renowned Gschleier subzone, near Girlan. Produced from vines between 80 and 110 years old, this red wine elegantly expresses Alto Adige's winemaking tradition, showcasing one of the region's most representative grape varieties.
The vineyards are located at approximately 450 meters above sea level on calcareous, clayey, and gravelly soils, in a particularly suitable area with good sun exposure. After hand-picked, the wine ferments for approximately 15–20 days and ages for 9 months in large oak barrels, followed by a period of bottle aging.
In the glass, it presents a light ruby red color. The bouquet is elegant and delicate, with floral notes, red fruits, and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it is lean, fresh, and dynamic, with subtle tannins, good flavor, and a harmonious finish that invites another sip.
Perfect for drinking young, the Gschleier Schiava Vecchie Vigne also has a good capacity for evolution, reaching 4-5 years of cellar aging.
