Why the winemaker recommends Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2022 Pinino
Its fragrant profile is typical of Sangiovese Grosso, striking a perfect balance between freshness and structure. It's a wine designed to be immediately enjoyable and versatile at the table, thanks to its medium-full body and velvety tannins that ensure excellent smoothness.
Although the 2022 vintage was hot and dry, it was saved by decisive rains at the end of July and an early harvest, which yielded grapes rich in polyphenols and a clear aromatic profile of raspberry and cherry with light spices. These characteristics make it ideal both for drinking young and for a brief aging in the bottle.
Wine Characteristics
Rosso di Montalcino DOC Pinino is a fruity red wine with a robust and agile structure. It has a lively and brilliant red color. Intense aromatic profile, dominated by cherry and raspberry, with delicate spicy notes. The palate is fresh and full-bodied, with silky tannins that provide excellent smoothness and a pleasantly persistent finish. Made with 100% Sangiovese Grosso, selected from the estate's crus north/northeast of Montalcino. The soil, rich in marl and alberese (Pinino) and clay/silt (Canchi), contributes to the complexity of the fruit. It ferments in temperature-controlled steel vats and macerates on the skins for 18–25 days. Aged briefly, at least 6 months in oak barrels, to preserve the fruit's fragrance.
Recommended Pairings
Its lively acidity and silky tannins make it ideal with pici with white Cinta ragù, tagliatelle with meat sauce, and traditional lasagna, where its acidity cleanses the palate. It pairs well with herb-crusted pork loin, free-range chicken, and pan-fried rabbit. Perfect with semi-mature cheeses such as Tuscan pecorino or mature caciotta.
Serve it at 16°C in a medium-sized glass.
