Why the winemaker recommends Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna 2020 Pinino
A single-vineyard cru that expresses the quintessential Sangiovese Grosso. The galestro and alberese soils of the Vigna Pinino lend extraordinary aromatic elegance and velvety tannins. The 2020 vintage was crucial, with September's temperature swings ensuring an impeccable balance between sugar and phenolic ripeness, giving the wine remarkable depth and great aging potential. The oak aging is expertly calibrated to enhance the fruit without ever masking its authentic character.
Characteristics of Brunello di Montalcino Wine
This Brunello presents a deep and intense ruby red color. The nose is complex, with clear aromas of cherry, black cherry, currant, and raspberry, accompanied by well-integrated and elegant oak. On the palate, it is sophisticated, with silky tannins and a persistent vertical thrust that underscores its finesse and structure. It is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes from the Pinino vineyard, a cru located north of Montalcino. Vinification involves fermentation in steel tanks with maceration on the skins for 18–25 days. The wine ages for a minimum of 30 months in oak barrels and barriques to develop its robust and fruity profile.
Recommended Pairings
Due to its robust structure and persistence, it pairs perfectly with:
Roast beef or lamb. Stewed game, such as wild boar. Aged cheeses with a bold profile.
Serve it at an optimal temperature of 16–18°C in a large glass. It's a wine that lends itself magnificently to a long evolution in the bottle to further develop its complexity.
