The Monopole Cru and Pedoclimatic Exceptionality of Vigna Ganger
The VIGNA GANGER Pinot Noir Riserva DOC represents the absolute pinnacle of production for Cantina Girlan and one of the most monumental interpretations of Pinot Noir in Italy. This selection stems from an extensive journey of research and micro-vinifications started in 2008, culminating in the choice of the "Ganger" vineyard, an authentic *monopole* (exclusive monopoly) situated in the celebrated sub-zone of Mazzon. Positioned at an altitude ranging between 360 and 380 meters above sea level, the vineyard benefits from a sharp southwestern exposure and gentle slopes calibrated between 3% and 5%. The unique microclimate combines with deep soils composed of clayey matrices on the surface resting on a solid limestone substratum—ideal conditions to ensure an excellent phenolic weave and an extraordinary concentration of extracts.
Enological Protocol: Gravity-Fed Processing, Partial Stems, and Extended Aging
The processing of the 2022 vintage applies rigorous technological criteria to protect the delicate extractive nature of this variety of French origin. The manual harvest takes place in mid-September using small bins. In the cellar, the destemmed grapes—integrated with a portion equal to one-fifth (20%) of whole clusters with stems unremoved to enrich the tannic architecture—are transferred exclusively by gravity into stainless steel tanks. The primary fermentation cycle and subsequent maceration extend for 25 days. Following the completion of malolactic conversion, the wine undergoes an extended 20-month aging path in oak barriques, completing the cycle with an 18-month stabilization rest in glass before its commercial release.
Sensory Profile of Vigna Ganger Trentino Alto Adige red wine
The complex cellar protocol combined with the exceptional substance of the Mazzon cru imparts an organoleptic framework of extraordinary breadth and tertiary depth to the Riserva.
- Blend and Classification: 100% Pinot Noir / Alto Adige DOC / Cru Monopole Riserva.
- Analytical Data (2022 Vintage): Alcohol Content: 14.50% Vol. / Aging: 20 months in barriques and 18 months in the bottle.
- Visual Assessment: Deep and limpid ruby red color, characterized by high viscosity and a splendid chromatic brilliance upon swirling in the glass.
- Olfactory Framework: Broad, intense, and refined bouquet. Consistent scents of ripe red fruit, cherry, and sour cherry stand out on the nose, integrated by notes of wild berries such as wild raspberry, and a subtle, characteristic tertiary hint of marzipan and sweet spices.
- Palate Characteristics: The tasting reveals an elegant, deep profile marked by a geometric persistence. The progression displays a full body supported by soft, balanced tannins that are perfectly integrated into a mass enlivened by a balanced acidity and a sharp mineral finish.
Service Guidelines and Gastronomic Pairings
The body fullness, the fineness of the tannins, and the complexity of this signature Pinot Noir make it an ideal companion for high-end land-based cuisine.
- Stable Pairings: It pairs with absolute elegance alongside structured second courses based on grilled or roasted red meats, prominent feathered and furred game preparations, stufati stews, and selections of aged cheeses.
- Serving Method: To promote the development of the exceptionally rich tertiary profile and ensure the integration of the polyphenolic components, a serving temperature of 14 - 16°C is recommended.
Evolutionary Potential and Storage
The Vigna Ganger Riserva displays monumental longevity, possessing an aging potential in the bottle that easily extends beyond 15-20 years. For proper tertiary development, horizontal bottle storage is recommended in a completely dark environment, free from vibrations and at a constant temperature.
