Rivera Preludio N°1 Chardonnay Castel del Monte DOC 2025
Rivera's Preludio N°1 holds a place of honor in the history of Puglia's winemaking, having been the first Chardonnay produced in Puglia and throughout Southern Italy. This iconic label is the result of extensive experimentation begun in the 1980s to adapt the noble French grape variety to the Mediterranean climate of the Murgia hills around Bari, creating a white wine of rare elegance and consistency.
The Chardonnay grapes come from vineyards located at 350 meters above sea level on rocky soils, trained using the spurred cordon system. The early harvest (between the second and third week of August) allows for the preservation of the grapes' natural freshness. Vinification takes place in stainless steel at 18°C, followed by aging on the fine lees for 3-4 months to enrich the wine's body. Unlike more pared-back interpretations, Preludio N°1 undergoes complete malolactic fermentation, giving it a distinctive roundness that pairs perfectly with its natural acidity.
Tasting Notes and Sensory Profile
- Abv: 13.00% Vol.
- Appearance: Intense straw yellow, brilliant, and beautifully luminous.
- Aroma: Complex, fresh, and fruity bouquet, dominated by elegant notes of pear and peach blossom.
- On the Palate: Full-bodied, fresh, and fruity. The balance between the acidity and the softness obtained from malolactic fermentation makes it a wine of excellent length and complexity.
Recommended Pairings and Serving Suggestion
Its remarkable versatility makes it a reference point for restaurants and Mediterranean cuisine:
- Seafood: It pairs perfectly with seafood appetizers (both raw and cooked), white fish dishes, and light soups.
- Meat Dishes: Ideal with Italian appetizers, grilled vegetables, and delicate first courses.
- Serving Suggestion: We recommend serving at a serving temperature of 10 - 12°C in a medium-sized glass to enhance its floral bouquet and structure.
