Chateau Léoville Barton
Château Léoville Barton is one of the historic greats of the Médoc, classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, the vineyard is situated on one of the most prestigious terroirs on the Left Bank, with deep Garonne soils that provide perfect drainage and give the wines depth, elegance, and structure.
The estate owes its name to the Barton family, of Irish origin, who purchased the vineyards in 1826. Even today, after more than two centuries, it is one of the very few Bordeaux properties to have belonged to the same family since the time of the famous Classificat of 1855.
Although it does not have a château of its own name—vinification takes place at the nearby Château Langoa Barton—Léoville Barton embodies the purest Saint-Julien style: controlled power, refinement, and remarkable aging potential.
The approximately 50-hectare vineyard is planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), followed by Merlot (20%), and a small portion of Cabernet Franc (3%), on gravel and clay soils that favor the balance and complexity of the wines.
But Léoville Barton is more than just wine: its magnificent English and French gardens, with over 1,000 roses and rare botanical varieties, express the same harmony and care found in every bottle. A historical, viticultural, and landscape heritage that continues to thrive, marked by tradition, with a constant focus on quality.
