Why choose Chateau Léoville Barton 2ème Grand Cru Classé 2017
Château Léoville Barton 2017 represents one of the finest expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux: a deep, refined, and generous wine, capable of aging beautifully for decades. Ideal for connoisseurs, collectors, and enthusiasts of great Bordeaux classics.
The harvest is exclusively manual, with careful selection in the vineyard and in the cellar. After destemming, the grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled wooden vats, following the parcel-by-parcel vinification method. Extraction is gentle, with the number of pumpings adjusted according to the vintage. The maceration lasts approximately three weeks, followed by aging for 16-18 months in French oak barriques, 60% of which are new, in a cellar at a constant temperature (15°C).
The 2017 Château Léoville Barton stands out for its almost single-varietal blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, with an alcohol content of 13% vol.
The result is a wine of great structure, power, and longevity, which fully expresses the nobility of the Saint-Julien terroir. It has a intense purple color. The bouquet is rich and seductive, with notes of ripe black fruits, graphite, toasted bread, crème de cassis, lavender, and cedar, complemented by floral scents and a deep minerality.
On the palate, the attack is frank, energetic, and defined, supported by silky, precise tannins. The palate is enveloped in a fleshy, velvety texture, enriched with nuances of licorice, dark chocolate, and sweet spices, with a long, persistent, and elegant finish.
Recommended pairings
Perfect with grilled red meats, braised meats, game, or lamb en croute. Also excellent with aged cheeses and structured French dishes.
Château Léoville Barton
With over 300 years of family history, Château Léoville Barton is one of the most fascinating and renowned Deuxième Grand Cru Classés from 1855, located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Founded in 1826 by Hugh Barton, grandson of Thomas Barton (who emigrated from Ireland to Bordeaux in 1722), the château is now led by the tenth generation of the Barton family, with Lilian Barton-Sartorius and her children carrying on the vision of excellence passed down over the centuries.
The vineyard, magnificently situated on one of the finest croupes of Graves Garonne soils, extends over 50 hectares in the heart of Saint-Julien, benefiting from clay-gravel soils that ensure natural drainage and excellent resistance to climate variations. Agriculture is traditional, without herbicides or herbicides, confirming the commitment to a sustainable approach.
