Why the Winemaker Recommends Due Strade
Because it represents Gutturnio in its most authentic and classic version, a faithful expression of the Piacenza tradition. The grapes, sourced from estate-owned vineyards in the Gutturnio Classico area, blend Barbera and Bonarda in perfect harmony: the former adds structure and character, while the latter contributes fruitiness and softens the palate. The wine's name itself evokes the "gutturnium," the ancient Roman silver goblet used for the finest wines, honoring a winemaking heritage rooted in centuries past. Following fermentation with short, frequent pump-overs and several racking steps for clarification, the wine achieves its sparkling character in an autoclave at the end of winter before being bottled in early spring.
Characteristics of Sparkling Gutturnio Red Wine
It presents an intense, brilliant ruby-red color. On the nose, it hits first with a distinct vinous character before opening up to fruity notes. On the palate, it is smooth and full-bodied, with a subtle minerality that leaves it fresh and pleasantly balanced. The light effervescence brightens the drink, making it the perfect companion for lively gatherings around the table. It retains its best qualities for about 2–3 years. Recommended Food Pairings for Gutturnio Wine
An everyday dining wine par excellence, ideal with soups and red meats. Perfect alongside a board of assorted cured meats, it also pairs splendidly with traditional Piacenza first courses, such as ricotta tortelli.
