Why the winemaker recommends Sommossa
Because it is a revolutionary and modern Bonarda, capable of highlighting all the pleasant liveliness of this grape variety with an easy and enjoyable drinkability. It originates from the marly-limestone soils of the Castello di Luzzano estate in the municipality of Rovescala, where Croatina has been cultivated since ancient times, achieving great and well-deserved fame. After maceration in fermenters with short, frequent pump-overs, the wine is racked several times during the winter to clarify gradually, before being bottled in early March following secondary fermentation in autoclaves.
Characteristics of sparkling red Bonarda wine
It presents a bright ruby red color. On the nose, it is intense and rich, featuring notes of raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry jam that blend with mineral nuances. On the palate, the fruitiness is generous, offering a dry taste of great elegance and a pleasant effervescence that tickles the palate. Already balanced by late spring, it shows its best in the summer and retains its characteristics for at least 2–3 years. If you love this fruity, lively profile, these varieties are traditionally blended with Bonarda in Oltrepò.
Recommended pairings for sparkling Bonarda wine
It pairs perfectly with all types of cured meats and mixed charcuterie boards, and its dry, lightly sparkling taste makes it an excellent match for the entire meal. It is also great alongside a savory grilled sausage dish.
