Characteristics of the Carmignano DOCG Santa Cristina in Pilli 2023 Ambra
The Carmignano Santa Cristina in Pilli 2023 from Fattoria Ambra is a masterful expression of one of the most prestigious historic appellations in Tuscany. This wine is born from a skillful blend where Sangiovese takes center stage, supported by the international balance of Cabernet Sauvignon and traditional varieties such as Canaiolo Nero and Colorino. The Santa Cristina in Pilli vineyard, thanks to its ideal soils, gives this wine an extraordinarily elegant character, combining Mediterranean warmth with the distinct mineral freshness typical of the area.
The nose opens with a frank and fruity profile, dominated by clear notes of wild blackberry, plum, and morello cherry, enriched on the finish by a delicate vegetal and spicy undertone. On the palate, the 2023 vintage reveals a medium-bodied structure, supported by vibrant acidity and austere yet well-polished tannins. The palate is savory, straight, and persistent, with a consistent return of hints of small black fruits in the finish.
Recommended Pairings and Serving Suggestions
The gastronomic nature and structural balance of this great Tuscan red make it perfect for accompanying the rich dishes of traditional country cuisine:
- Red Meats and Game: An ideal companion for a classic Florentine steak, roast veal, rabbit cacciatore, hare, or goose casserole.
- Mature Cheeses: It finds a perfect synergy with flavorful hard cheeses such as Pecorino di Pienza, Parmigiano Reggiano, and Grana Padano.
- Serving Recommendation: To allow the bouquet to fully unfold, we recommend uncorking the bottle an hour before drinking and serving at the optimal temperature of 16 - 18°C in medium-sized balloon glasses.
Fattoria Ambra and the Philosophy of Giuseppe Rigoli
Fattoria Ambra takes its name from the poems of Lorenzo the Magnificent and is located near the historic Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano. Today, the soul and mind of the winery is agronomist and winemaker Giuseppe Rigoli (known as Beppe). A descendant of the historic owners' family, Giuseppe manages the estate with a targeted approach to maximizing the value of the company's individual crus, applying environmentally friendly viticulture and winemaking protocols capable of expressing the Carmignano terroir with an authentic, proud, and unadulterated language.
