Tuscan White Wine

Tuscany is among the best custodians of our winemaking traditions, and its white wines are among the most prized in the national wine culture. Although Tuscan white wines are less renowned than their reds, they deserve just as much importance, both for their high quality and also for their vast selection and exceptional flavor. But which are the best? What are their salient characteristics? Let's find out together!

The roots of Tuscan white wine date back to the 1st century AD, when Pliny the Elder mentioned in one of his manuscripts the first vinum trebulanum, today known as Trebbiano. In 1282, merchants established the guild of the Arte dei Vinattieri, and during this period, Greco and Malvasia wines began to gain importance. The white variety was so popular that it was even sought after beyond the Alps and, according to some sources, was the favorite of King Frederick II of France.

Characteristics of Tuscan White Wines

Tuscan white wines can be produced not only with native grape varieties, but also with international ones (such as Chardonnay), which derive specific aromas from the characteristics of the air and soil in which the vines grow. If you intend to serve a fresh, young wine, the ideal serving temperature is between 10-12°C in tulip-shaped glasses, which concentrate the drink on the tip of the tongue. The wide-bellied Rhine glass, on the other hand, is suitable for more structured wines, as it ensures proper oxygenation and avoids an astringent effect.
