Cantina Gaggiano

Gaggiano, fine red wines from the unique terroir of Upper Piedmont

The history of Gaggiano has its roots in the nebbiolo rows of Upper Piedmont, where the Fabris family gathers for the traditional harvest. Grandpa Gervasio, a passionate winemaker, zealously coordinated the family members, leaving the fun of pressing the grapes in the vats to the grandchildren. The value of the family and the will to continue the path traced by grandfather Gervasio push the Fabris family to invest in small plots of vineyards on the hills of Gattinara (VC), Casa del Bosco and Sostegno (BI) to produce great red wines with denomination, such as Gattinara DOCG, Bramaterra DOC and Coste della Sesia DOC.

The Gaggiano cellar, located in the heart of the municipality of Lessona, was created after a careful restoration. In the next few years, the surrounding land will be dedicated to vineyards to produce grapes for another important denomination: the Lessona doc. The Gaggiano vineyards, located between an altitude of 250 and 450 meters above sea level, have unique climatic and geological conditions, characterized by cold winters, hot and humid summers refreshed by the currents of the nearby Alpine arc on which Monte Rosa stands. The soil, composed of rocks of volcanic origin, is rich in porphyry, quartz and sand with an acid reaction with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5.

Gaggiano's basic philosophy is to produce small quantities to focus on quality and enhance the identity of the individual denominations of Upper Piedmont. The building that houses the cellar has been completely renovated to create an optimal environment for carrying out all the production and transformation phases from grapes to wine up to marketing. The refinement of the wines takes place in the basement using second passage French oak tonneaux and 26 hl Austrian oak barrels to maximize traceability, terroir and the typical character of Upper Piedmont.
