Getting to know Nebbiolo Bramaterra DOC Gaggiano Gervasio
The Bramaterra DOC Gervasio di Gaggiano is a complex and structured Piedmontese red wine, known since ancient times as the "wine of the canons". Bramaterra is a sub-region of Piedmont and has obtained DOCG status since 1979. It is produced from Nebbiolo (80%), Croatina (10%) and Vespolina (10%) grapes from small plots located in the municipalities of Sostegno and Casa del Forest in the province of Biella, in Upper Piedmont. Nebbiolo is the main grape but Croatina and Vespolina are also in the mix. The last two help, and here they did, to reduce the acidity of Nebbiolo. To qualify as Bramaterra DOCG, it must be aged in oak for at least 18 months. Good wine? Well it slipped really well. Red cherry, tea, violets, cinnamon. Refreshing. The first year of production was in 2015. The land on which the vines grow is made up of sand and rocks of volcanic origin.
Characteristics of the wine:
The Bramaterra DOC Gervasio red wine ages for 22 months, of which 18 months in large Austrian oak barrels, giving the wine softness and spicy notes. Wine that lends itself to aging with a duration of at least 20 years. A real bomb. Intense and complex nose, cherry, raspberry, violet and minerals, with balsamic notes and thyme and oregano. Of excellent freshness, structured, intense, palate that follows the sense of smell very well, excellent balance and very long finish!
Pairings:
