Why the winemaker recommends Castel Sallegg Merlot Riserva Alto Adige DOC

Surprisingly, the 2020 vintage seems younger than the 1920s. Denser in color but also fruitier on the nose and palate, less wood and a little more agile in the acid structure. But this is also an outrageously well-made Merlot from Alto Adige. It has an excellent quality/price ratio and lives somewhat in the shadow of its big brother "Nussleiten" which remains the flagship wine of the Castell Sallegg winery.

Characteristics of the Merlot Riserva Castel Sallegg

Calm power Merlot Riserva. Quiet is its virtue. A dark flower that blooms in the most beautiful corners. It releases aromas of berries, subtle notes of tobacco and vanilla. A play of alternating fine tannins and juicy blackberry. Superlative, aggressive, with a caramelized background as only Merlot can be. Offers a persistent finish.
