Terroir and Blending Philosophy of Barolo Monfalletto®
The Barolo Monfalletto® DOCG stands as the flagship label and the definitive identity symbol of the Cordero di Montezemolo winery. This wine expresses the ultimate synthesis of the estate's proprietary vineyards within the La Morra municipality, bringing together the entire historical single-style area of 14 hectares, excluding only the parcels selected for individual single-vineyard crus. The production framework is based on the traditional blending of different plots across the Annunziata hillside, a historical approach aimed at merging multiple agronomic variables into an overall balance of absolute harmony.
Agronomic Features and Fractional Maturation Protocol
The vineyards thrive on sedimentary limestone-clay marl soils, enjoying optimal sun distribution via dominant South and South-East slope orientations. Technical management enforces a fragmented hand-harvesting schedule to target peak phenolic ripeness within each micro-zone. In the cellar, the grapes from each parcel undergo individual fermentation cycles inside temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The subsequent wood maturation also follows separate split pathways within the historical cellars; the diverse lots are assembled into a single unified volume only prior to final bottling.
Sensory profile of Barolo Monfalletto
The seamless integration of diverse hillside sectors grants the Nebbiolo a clean organoleptic identity marked by precise aromatic refinement and exceptional fluid framework.
- Appellation, Blend and ABV: 100% Nebbiolo / Barolo DOCG / 14.50% ABV.
- Visual Presentation: Clear and bright garnet red color, displaying the elegant structural transparency typical of the La Morra style.
- Aromatic Bouquet: Broad and forward nose, showcasing dominant notes of ripe red fruits, cherry, and marasca cherry, layered with dried violet, rose petals, and delicate sweet spice undertones.
- Palate Texture: Dry, warm, and highly harmonious on the entry. The mid-palate delivers a balanced texture where well-integrated, polished tannins support a rounded mouthfeel, driving a complex drinking experience with a refreshing structure that ensures fine accessibility in its youth.
Food Pairings and Serving Recommendations
The excellent structural agility and velvety tannic weave of this classic Barolo support outstanding versatility across high-quality land-based cuisine.
- Classic Pairings: Pairs naturally with classic Langhe dishes, from tajarin pasta with meat reductions to ravioli del plin and traditional roasted red meats. It serves as an ideal partner for medium-aged cow or sheep cheeses.
- Serving Conditions: To allow the complex aromatic layers to unfold and soften the tannins, serve at a steady temperature of 16 - 18°C.
