Why I suggest Caj Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC
A dusty and easy to drink Barbera from Italy. It is the "people's wine", so the rustic style has been appropriate for hundreds of years as it matches the traditional cuisine of the region. We are perhaps spoiled by the most elegant and sophisticated expressions of recent times, but let's not forget our roots. The Good in a punch if you're looking for a medium-bodied red!
The Sommelier: Red fruit characterized by a juicy dark and sour red cherry with earth and smoke. Young but rustic, the breath softens but does not change the base medium-bodied wine that is enhanced by the food - or vice versa. An honest wine.
Recommended pairings: Orecchiette from Bari with meat sauce; braised meat, grilled sausages; side dish of Treviso radicchio and scottona hamburger. Apulian taralli and Sardinian pecorino.
