Why Choose Le "C" des Carmes Haut-Brion 2019
Le "C" des Carmes Haut-Brion 2019 is an elegant and precise Bordeaux, capable of expressing the essence of Pessac-Léognan with a contemporary style, crafted for those seeking complexity and drinkability in perfect balance. A remarkable second wine that rivals the quality of many flagship labels.
A wine of character, precision, and finesse from one of the most captivating terroirs on the Left Bank. Le "C" des Carmes Haut-Brion 2019 is the second label of the iconic estate Les Carmes Haut-Brion, located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan AOC and owned by the Pichet family. Under the expert guidance of Guillaume Pouthier and the technical consultancy of Stéphane Derenoncourt, this wine embodies the estate’s philosophy: respectful and innovative winemaking focused on the balance between power and freshness.
A Unique Terroir, Meticulous Craftsmanship
The 2019 vintage comes from 30.75 hectares of vineyards planted on Gunz gravel, Pliocene sands, and Oligocene clays, with high planting density (6,700–12,000 vines/ha) and an average vine age of 14 years. The harvest was carried out manually from September 26 to October 10, 2019, ensuring careful grape selection.
Vinification took place in truncated conical stainless steel tanks, wooden vats, and concrete tanks, with whole-cluster fermentation and partial whole-bunch vinification, a technique that brings aromatic depth and freshness to the wine. Extraction was gentle, using only pigeage (manual cap punching).
Aging lasted 18–24 months, with maturation in 70% one-year-old barriques and 30% new barriques and foudres.
The wine then rested further in concrete vats to promote harmony and balance on the palate.
Tasting Notes
Le "C" 2019 displays a deep, brilliant ruby red color. The nose reveals a refined aromatic palette, dominated by ripe red and black fruits, hints of sweet spices, graphite, violet, and delicate touches of toasted wood. On the palate, the structure is elegant, with fine, silky tannins, a vibrant freshness, and a well-integrated minerality. The finish is long, dynamic, and juicy, with a tension that perfectly balances the richness of the vintage. A red wine that is powerful yet never heavy, with great aging potential.
Recommended Pairings
Perfect alongside roasts, game, beef stews, oven-baked lamb, or aged hard cheeses. Also excellent for cellaring, given its structure and complexity.
