Why the winemaker recommends Malvirà Renesio Roero Riserva DOCG 2019
Malvirá, in Canale, is an absolute reference for the DOCG Roero. Cru coming from the vineyard most exposed to sunlight. According to what we were told, the grapes coming from this Cru are the most sensitive to climate changes, thus leading to large differences between the various vintages. One of the flagship wines is this Renesio, Nebbiolo from vineyards with an average age of 40 years, managed organically. 30 months of aging in large barrels and tonneaux. Wood passage that makes itself felt, giving the product intense hints of bark, lively and sharp tannins. In my opinion, this last characteristic makes it a wine that must necessarily be sipped with succulent dishes.
Characteristics of the Renesio di Malvirà red wine
Renesio Riserva coming from the historic Canalese vineyard, origin and heart of the Roero. Nebbiolo aged in wood for 24 months + 12 in the bottle, 2011 harvest, opened in 2022. Classic garnet red, after decantation, on the nose it releases intense aromas of red fruit compote, black cherry, dried violet, tobacco. In the mouth the sip is full and satisfying, balanced in all its components, with tannin still present but tamed. Long finish that recalls the fruit, a vintage at its most ripe.
Recommended pairings for this Roero Riserva DOCG Piemonte red wine
For this Nebbiolo I recommend pairing it with braised meats; cured meats and cheeses.
Uncork and decant one hour before serving the Nebbiolo Renesio at a temperature of 18 - 20°C in a large balloon glass.

Since 1950, the Damonte family has cultivated Roero, producing wines that embody the essence of this Piedmontese territory. With roots in tradition, the company takes its name from the ancient Malvirà building and has evolved, keeping alive the dedication to quality and respect for the land. Today, the third generation continues to enhance native vines such as Arneis, Roero and Nebbiolo, creating refined wines that express the uniqueness of Roero.
