Why the winemaker recommends Malvirà Roero Classico DOCG 2019.
Great ambassador of the terroir from which it originates. Very important and demanding wine. A great table wine that shows the lighter side of Nebbiolo. The first sip brings a healthy dose of cherry compote and star anise. The acidity is present but rather muted as far as Piedmontese wine goes, the tannins cling to the cheeks long after the wine has been sipped. A truly solid and great value wine. It requires at least an hour of decanting.
Characteristics of the Roero di Malvirà red wine
Roero should remain a lighter wine than its more important cousins Barolo and Barbaresco, but here we have 14.5° making it a very respectable wine. After a few minutes of oxygenation it loses the alcoholic note and all the fruity notes of the Nebbiolo can be felt. In the mouth it is quite tannic, without however being too overpowering.
Recommended pairings for this Roero Classico DOCG Piemonte red wine
For this Nebbiolo I recommend pairing it with braised meat; cured meats and cheeses.
Uncork and decant one hour before serving the Nebbiolo at a temperature of 18 - 20°C in a large balloon glass.
Malvirà wine
Since 1950, the Damonte family has cultivated Roero, producing wines that embody the essence of this Piedmontese territory. With roots in tradition, the company takes its name from the ancient Malvirà building and has evolved, keeping alive the dedication to quality and respect for the land. Today, the third generation continues to enhance native vines such as Arneis, Roero and Nebbiolo, creating refined wines that express the uniqueness of Roero. A visit to the winery offers a sensory journey through vineyards, tradition and innovation.
