Schloss Englar Cuvée Blanc de Castel Mitterberg IGT 2023

Expressive polyphony and blending harmony reach their quality peak in the Cuvée Blanc de Castel by Schloss Englar. This sophisticated organic blend is crafted to satisfy a modern, evolved audience seeking a white wine capable of merging the robust structure of noble grape varieties with the crisp freshness of Alpine altitudes. The winery has orchestrated a unique, signature blend that boasts a proud, multifaceted character of absolute stylistic precision. A captivating and contemporary proposal that reinterprets the centuries-old winemaking tradition of the Appiano estate, positioning itself as one of the most versatile and successful labels in high-altitude winemaking.

Why the Winemaker Recommends Cuvée Blanc de Castel

This prestigious Cuvée stands as a perfect demonstration of how different grape varieties can integrate through a tailored, fragmented vinification protocol. The winemaker manages separate manual harvests to respect the optimal ripening times of each variety: Pinot Blanc undergoes fermentation and aging in French oak tonneaux to gain structure and depth, while Riesling and Sauvignon remain in stainless steel tanks to protect their acidity and more volatile aromatic nuances. The final result guarantees excellent aromatic stability and a profound, smooth palate progression completely free from alcoholic heat.

Characteristics of the High-Altitude White Wine

This refined organic blend elevates the traits of individual grape varieties to a superior level of definition, expressing the very quintessence of mountain viticulture in the glass. The wine's architecture is built upon a signature blend composed of 50% Riesling, 24% Pinot Blanc, and 24% Sauvignon. The vines, trained in the Guyot system between 450 and 550 meters above sea level, sink their roots into a calcareous soil rich in clay and gravel. Every element works in harmony to define a clear sensory profile of unquestionable quality consistency, perfect for exploring through tasting notes analysis.

Organoleptic Profile

  • Alcohol and Structure: 13.50% Vol.
  • Appearance: Splendid straw yellow color in the glass, beautifully embellished with bright, intense, and lively greenish highlights that enhance its youthfulness.
  • Aroma: A complex, layered bouquet of rare finesse. The nose opens led by clear scents of peach and apricot, elegantly finished by floral nuances of elderflower and Alpine rose petals.
  • Palate: Tense, fresh, and incredibly elegant structure, offering an entry into the mouth of total freshness and volume. The progression on the palate reveals extraordinary agility crossed by a clear and deep mineral trail, highlighting a slender and remarkably deep style, free from any youthful harshness. The sip develops in an austere yet seductive manner, guiding the tasting toward a wonderful persistence and a savory finish.

Food Pairings and Service for the Alto Adige Wine white

The aromatic nature of this selection requires accurate culinary pairings capable of conversing with the finesse of its sensory profile.

  • First Courses and Fusion Cuisine: Pairs beautifully with delicate appetizers, vegetarian dishes, first and second courses based on fish or white meats. It is perfect for enhancing traditional Japanese dishes such as sushi and sashimi.
  • Signature Pairings: For an unforgettable start to a meal, try it as a conversation wine during a sophisticated aperitif.
  • Service Conditions: The wine expresses its maximum potential at an optimal serving temperature of 10 - 12°C (50 - 54°F) to avoid alcoholic sharpness and enhance the fruit's fragrance.

The Terroir and the 2023 Vintage of Schloss Englar

The climate of the 2023 vintage bestowed a perfect balance between the crisp acid drive of Riesling and the structural richness of Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon, enhancing the experience that binds the history of great Italian wines to the passion of local families. Production came to life from separate manual harvests to respect the different ripening times of the grapes. Fermentation was carried out using indigenous yeasts: Pinot Blanc vinified in French oak tonneaux, while Riesling and Sauvignon vinified in stainless steel tanks, followed by 7 months of aging on the fine lees before the final blending. Every single bottle, produced in an extremely limited run of only 8,328 units, reflects the dedication of the winemakers who manage the estate with energy and foresight, offering the consumer an authentic and memorable experience with every taste.
