Why I Recommend Mazzetti d'Altavilla Distillates Amaro Forte 35% ABV

In the past, popular tradition has handed down the preparation of boldly flavored infusions using distinctly bitter herbs for purifying, digestive, and regenerating purposes, both for religious and health reasons. From a secret recipe developed in the Benedictine Monastery, which once stood atop Altavilla Monferrato, Amaro Forte is a true concentration of that hortus simplicium, the ancient garden of simple medicines, where plants were once cultivated, selected by the monks to prepare compounds and medicines.

Characteristics of Mazzetti d'Altavilla Amaro Forte

Mazzetti d'Altavilla's Amaro Forte is an aristocratic digestive elixir, faithful to a historic formulation originating from Monferrato.

Its profile is distinguished by a pure and vertical bitterness, made even more distinct by a minimal residual sugar content. This production method creates a perfect fusion between the alcohol base and the botanicals, lending an austere character free of overpowering notes.

The palate offers a dry, balsamic, and penetrating impact that quickly evolves into a warm development of roots and woods. The texture remains soft yet always supported by a strong freshness, ensuring a completely clean palate after every single sip.

Recommended pairings for Amaro Forte

At the table, this amaro excels as a pure digestif after a meal. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate with a very high cocoa percentage, which complements the liqueur's bitter notes. It also pairs beautifully with almond-based pastries or candied orange peel covered in dark chocolate.

Long-aged blue cheeses offer a perfect and surprising pairing. The cheese's fattiness and spicy undertones are ideally contrasted by the liqueur's sharp freshness. The root notes cleanse the mouth and prepare the palate for the next sip.

The world of cigars offers another high-end experience for meditation. The dense, evolved smoke pairs well with the austere character of the spirit. The woody, earthy notes of tobacco evoke the deep aromas of rhubarb and gentian.

In the realm of advanced mixology, this amaro successfully replaces classic bitters to create unique variations on the Negroni. It pairs well with very dry gins and spicy red vermouths. Just a few drops add a balsamic kick and a dry finish to any structured cocktail.

Serving temperature:

Serving this spirit requires precision to best express its complex aromatic architecture. The ideal serving temperature is between 12° and 14° Celsius. This temperature range allows the herbaceous and balsamic components to unfold without the alcohol overpowering the palate. If you prefer a more refreshing sensation, you can lower the temperature to 8%, or serve the liqueur with a single crystalline ice cube, which slowly dilutes the spirit without altering its structure.

The ideal glass is a small, long-stemmed tulip glass. This shape captures the intense aromas of the roots and directs them toward the nose, keeping your hand away from the bowl to avoid warming the liquid. Alternatively, for serving with ice, a low, thick-bottomed tumbler glass is recommended.
