Why the winemaker recommends Claudio Mariotto Braghé Freisa Colli Tortonesi DOC 2020
Mr. Mariotto presents a typical Freisa, one of the most unfashionable Piedmontese vines. It is agile, with a slim structure, with a marked acidity and a lively rusticity. On the nose it is intensely vinous, with a floral bouquet. On the palate a light and enveloping structure, with a markedly bitter finish. Well done to Mariotto for having brought out a wine from times gone by with the skills of a winemaker today (even if the wine of the past is imho more or less myth.
Characteristics of Claudio Mariotto Braghé Freisa wine
Boldness without arrogance, pleasure advances and radiates the room; this is the Freisa di Claudio Mariotto selected in the vineyards in the Braghé area, Vho, calcareous - clayey land around 300 meters above sea level. Spontaneous fermentation and short maceration, six months of aging in steel followed by further months in the bottle. Dark ruby with purple edges, on the nose it releases hints of blackberry fruit, blackberry, raspberry, cherry, followed by light vinous tones and wild hints, followed by broad floral notes of rose, carnation, geranium and hints of earth.
Recommended pairings for this Freisa Colli Tortonesi DOC 2020 red wine Piemonte
Fine and highly drinkable Freisa, excellent to accompany a plate of agnolotti with meat sauce; lasagna Bolognese; braised meat in Barbera red wine; a fassona carpaccio; with winter dishes: meat soups, boiled meat, stew.
