Winemaker Chiarlo advice

Le Orme Barbera d’Asti. This wine is based on practices that respect the natural evolution of the vineyards, designed to maximize the varietal's identity. The project protects the soil, the vines, and people, preserving biodiversity and the ecosystem's balance through natural fertilization, grassing, and green manure.

In the vineyard, meticulous green work is carried out, with targeted, but never excessive, thinning for quality. Each intervention is conducted vineyard by vineyard, vine by vine, following an artisanal philosophy that considers each bunch of grapes a unique microcosm to be enhanced.

Wine Characteristics

Le Orme Barbera d’Asti by Michele Chiarlo. Great bottles always come from meticulous attention. In the glass, it displays numerous, subtle tears, revealing a fragrance and aromatic intensity rich in red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, enhanced by toasted, balsamic, leathery notes, and floral nuances. On the palate, it is dry, with good acidity and well-balanced alcohol. A medium-bodied wine with medium-high persistence, fine tannins that bring out the freshness of the fruit on the finish.

Serving Guidelines and Food Pairings

The great Piedmontese classics: agnolotti del plin with roast gravy, egg tajarin with meat ragù, perfect with Piedmontese Fassona beef tartare, grilled veal, chicken cacciatore, or grilled pork. Sunday dishes: ideal with stew with polenta, platters and appetizers with cooked salami, coppa, lard, and aged prosciutto. Cheeses such as Piedmontese Toma, hard Bra, and moderately aged Raschera.

Uncork and decant the Barbera d'Asti one hour before serving at 16-18°C in a large balloon glass.

The Michele Chiarlo winery is among the historic founders of the Grandi Vini Consortium, founders of the Barolo Academy, and was selected to be part of the Grandi Marchi Institute of Quality Italian Wine.
