Nero du Munti Salina PGI Rosso Caravaglio
Nero du Munti is the most authentic and powerful expression of Corinto Nero, a rare native grape variety of the Aeolian Islands, grown between the volcanic craters and sea breezes of Lipari and Salina. This intense red wine, rooted in the ash and pumice of the islands, survived phylloxera thanks to the sandy soils and ungrafted cultivation.
The grapes come from historic vineyards located in the Fossa del Monte area of Lipari and Malfa (Salina), approximately 300 meters above sea level. Here, the southwest exposure, poor soil, and constant ventilation create the ideal conditions for producing a wine with a strong territorial identity. Harvesting is done by hand, and vinification involves a long maceration on the skins for approximately 30 days, followed by 12 months of aging in stainless steel and oak, without invasive interventions.
Tasting Notes
It displays a deep, brilliant ruby color. On the nose, it releases intense notes of ripe cherry, wild blackberry, and pomegranate, accompanied by subtle spicy nuances of black pepper and balsamic touches. On the palate, it is structured yet elegant, with well-polished tannins, a natural freshness, and a balanced finish that combines the concentration of the fruit with volcanic minerality.
Recommended Pairings
Perfect with succulent red meats, grilled pork or lamb, aged cheeses, and flavorful Mediterranean dishes. It also pairs well with legume soups and spicy, Asian-inspired dishes. Serve at 16–18°C to best appreciate its complexity and depth.
