The Historical Heritage and Philosophy of Barbaresco Autinbej® DOCG
The Barbaresco Autinbej® DOCG represents a return to the roots of Langhe viticulture, focusing on the thoughtful blending of Nebbiolo grapes from various estate vineyards rather than a single cru. This label, introduced with the 2014 vintage, celebrates the historical heritage of a territory that proved to be an ideal enclave during that specific growing season. The technical management aims to enhance the complementarity of the different parcels, offering a wine of great balance and a distinctive regional character.
Cellar Notes on Vinification and Aging
The grapes originate from soils composed of calcareous-sandy gray marls in the municipality of Treiso, benefiting from a dual western and eastern exposure. The manual harvest takes place between late September and the first days of October. The technical protocol involves the traditional vinification of destemmed grapes, with temperature-controlled skin maceration tailored to the specific characteristics of the vintage. Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes its regular maturation in oak casks, strictly respecting the aging requirements established by the designation's production regulations.
Sensory Profile of Barbaresco Piedmont red wine
The combination of different hillside exposures imparts a dynamic organoleptic profile with a remarkably clean extraction to this selection.
- Blend and Alcohol Content: 100% Nebbiolo / Barbaresco Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita / 15.00% Vol.
- Visual Assessment: Deep garnet red color, embellished with characteristic antique rose highlights on the rim.
- Olfactory Framework: Intense and predominantly fruity bouquet, with distinct notes of raspberry and wild berry jam, combined with floral hints of violet. The spectrum finishes with ethereal nuances, sweet spice notes, and touches of cocoa.
- Palate Characteristics: The tasting reveals a warm, deep, and long-lasting profile, supported by a fine and well-integrated tannic texture. The finish highlights a clean palate, mirroring the fruity aromas perceived on the nose.
Service Guidelines and Gastronomic Pairings
The fruit intensity and balanced acid-tannic structure of this Nebbiolo pave the way for creative and modern culinary pairings.
- Gastronomic Pairings: Beyond the classic pairing with roasted red meats, it matches excellently with duck or pork dishes—whether grilled or fried—finding a perfect balance with spicy or sweet-and-sour sauces as well.
- Serving Method: The wine expresses its full potential at a serving temperature of 18°C, which is optimal for the aromatic bouquet to unfold.
Temporal Evolution and Storage
Autinbej® proves to be versatile and fully enjoyable in its early years of commercialization, while simultaneously possessing a steady aging potential estimated between 10 and 15 years. To preserve its quality integrity, horizontal bottle storage is recommended in dark environments at a constant temperature.
